Project summary
Ahold Delhaize wanted to replace a number of existing shopping websites with a new ecommerce platform that could be configured for different brands and markets across Europe. I spent three years working as part of the multidisciplinary team building the new front end.
The challenge
Create a flexible ecommerce experience that could support the different needs of multiple brands and markets, while providing a consistent technical foundation that could evolve over time.
The approach
Working closely with UX, UI and development teams, I helped turn the new customer experience into a library of modular, reusable front-end components.
Rather than building individual pages in isolation, the interface was broken down into reusable elements, components and modules that could be combined in different ways across the platform.
The work involved close collaboration across a distributed European team, including backend integration teams in Romania, Ukraine and Greece.

The solution
A reusable front-end system that allowed customer experiences to be assembled from a common library of components while accommodating the needs of individual brands and markets.
The platform was rolled out across multiple European markets, including implementations for Albert Heijn in the Netherlands and Mega Image in Romania.
